Members’ role in Co-ops: NCUI unveils two vital training modules

In a significant development for the cooperative movement in the country, National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) has unveiled two vital training modules titled “Members’ Role in Cooperatives” and “Governance in Cooperatives.”

These modules are part of the recently established “National Cooperative Resource Centre” (NCRC) division, which was created in response to directives from the Union Home and Cooperation Minister in 2022, informs a press release issued by the apex cooperative body.

Topics related to membership, including various membership categories, application procedures, benefits, challenges, and factors influencing membership find a place in this module. It also discusses the rights and responsibilities of members, as well as the procedures for membership discontinuation, disqualification, and withdrawal.

On the other hand, the “Cooperative Governance” module explores the concept of “corporate governance in cooperatives” and delves into multifaceted dimensions of cooperative governance.

This includes discussions on board activities, roles and responsibilities of board members, the distribution of decision-making rights, issues of accountability, the relationship between members and the board, the interplay between board members and professional managers, and the pivotal role of governance in professionalizing cooperatives.

“These training modules are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the understanding and capabilities of cooperatives across India. They represent a significant step towards strengthening the cooperative movement and fostering the development of competitive and sustainable cooperative enterprises”, claims the release.

The NCRC’s commitment to promoting cooperative education and training underscores its dedication to the betterment of the cooperative sector in India. To access the training modules, interested individuals and organizations can visit e-commerce websites and search for these two training modules.

The NCUI remains committed to fostering a culture of learning and excellence within the cooperative sector, and this online accessibility is a testament to their dedication to this mission, says the apex body through this release.

As the cooperative movement in India continues to evolve and adapt to changing times, the availability of these training modules online is expected to play a crucial role in empowering cooperatives to thrive in an increasingly competitive and dynamic environment.
