In a significant development in Maharashtra’s cooperative sector, Omprakash Dadappa Koyte, popularly known as Kaka Koyte, has tendered his resignation from the post of Chairman of the Maharashtra State Cooperative Credit Societies Federation (MAFCOCS) after attaining the age of 75.
Koyte, who led the apex federation for over 15 years, formally submitted his resignation to the Board of Directors, bringing to a close a long, impactful, and widely respected tenure. Under his leadership, the federation emerged as a strong voice of cooperative credit societies across Maharashtra.
The Chairman’s role at the state level demands extensive travel and continuous engagement across regions. However, citing advancing age and health concerns, Koyte decided to step aside. Medical experts had also advised him to take adequate rest, which influenced his decision.
Amid speculative reports in sections of the media, Koyte firmly clarified that his resignation is purely on health grounds and has no connection with any controversy.
Speaking to the Indian Cooperative, he said, “Yes, I have submitted my resignation due to health issues and on the advice of my doctors. The role requires continuous travel across the state, which is becoming difficult now. The Board of the Federation is yet to meet and take a decision on the same.”
He emphasized that the decision was voluntary and taken in the larger interest of the federation, ensuring that its functioning continues without disruption.
A seasoned cooperator, Kaka Koyte enjoys immense respect not only in Maharashtra but across India’s cooperative movement. Known for his mild-mannered personality, down-to-earth approach, and consensus-driven leadership, he has been a guiding force for credit cooperatives in the state.
His contribution to strengthening the cooperative credit structure in Maharashtra is widely regarded as significant, particularly in expanding outreach, improving governance, and reinforcing trust in the sector.
