Kerala income tax dept has finally raised Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh as the limit for calling information on deposits for cooperative societies and cooperative banks.
The spike would not cause small depositors any difficulties, said income tax officials.
Earlier Kerala employees’ union and various cooperative bodies had held protest meetings on the issue.
A tax dept source claimed it is in accordance with law and there is nothing unusual about it.
