CPI (M) leader P. Mohanan Master from Kozhikode has been elected as the President of Asia’s largest cooperative bank, the Kerala State Cooperative Bank (Kerala Bank).
Adv. T.V. Rajesh from Kannur has been elected as the Vice President. The election was held on Monday at the bank’s Head Office in Thiruvananthapuram.
Mohanan Master and Adv. Rajesh replace Gopi Kottamurickal and M.K. Kannan, who earlier served as President and Vice President, respectively.
The election to the governing body took place on November 21, and the vote counting was completed on November 24. The Returning Officer announced the results after the counting, following which the newly elected board held its first meeting to elect the President and Vice President.
Other elected members of the governing body include, Binil Kumar (Pathanamthitta); P. Ganakumar (Alappuzha); Adv. Jose Tom (Kottayam); Adv. V. Saleem (Ernakulam); M. Balaji (Thrissur); P. Gagarin (Wayanad); Adhin A. Nair (Kollam); Adv. Sreeja S. (Thiruvananthapuram); Smt. A.M. Mary (Kasaragod); Smt. Sreeja M.S. (Idukki); Swaminathan O.V. (Palakkad); and Shibu T.C. (Urban Bank Representative).
The newly elected governing body will serve a five-year term.
After assuming charge, the new President P. Mohanan Master was felicitated by Dr. Veena N. Madhavan, IAS, Special Secretary, Department of Cooperation.
The newly elected Vice President Adv. T.V. Rajesh, former President Gopi Kottamuriykkal, former Vice President M.K. Kannan, other board members, and the Bank’s CEO Jorty M. Chacko were also present at the ceremony.
Kerala Bank has a total business mix of more than Rs 1 lakh crore. The bank is driving digital transformation through its KB PRIME and KB PRIME PLUS apps, offering modern banking services, including UPI, to both individuals and institutions. It also provides cooperative sector customers the same digital facilities as commercial banks, without hidden charges or minimum balance requirements.
