Karnataka co-ops create history; donates about Rs 51 crore

Cooperative institutions in Karnataka have contributed to the tune of Rs 51 crore in the Chief Minister Relief fund, which drew a word of appreciation from the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

Thanking the cooperative institutions for making remarkable contributions, B S Yediyurappa, CM of Karnataka wrote on his twitter wall, “So far, an amount of Rs 50.5 crore has been donated by cooperative societies for fighting against Covid-19. The state Co-op Minister S T Somashekhar handed over the cheques. Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashok was also present”, he added.

On the behalf of cooperative societies, the Co-op Minister personally handed over the Cheques to the State Chief Minister.

Later on, the Karnataka Cooperative minister tweeted that, ” As of 05/05/2020, donations have been received from all Co-operative Departments in the state and Rs 50.5 crores have been donated to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Earlier, the co-operative minister had shared the list of cooperatives that contributed towards the CM relief fund.

The list includes Dakshina kannada cooperative milk union ltd (Rs 50 lakh), Chocolate Cooperative-Campco (Rs 25 lakh), Mysore Merchants Cooperative Bank (Rs 5 lakh), Thyagaraj Cooperative Bank (Rs 5 lakh), Bharath Housing Cooperative Society, Bangalore (Rs 2 lakh), Madhuban Housing Cooperative Society, Mysore (Rs 1 lakh), Puttur town cooperative bank (Rs 75k) and others.

The cooperatives of Uttara Kannada have made a joint contribution of Rs 27.73 lakh and PACCs in this district have made a contribution of Rs 16.97 lakh.

It is learnt that 67 Souharda Credit Cooperatives of Karnataka have contributed over Rs 50.53 lakh towards the CM and PM relief fund. There are around 4,456 Souharda cooperatives in Karnataka.

Annasaheb Shankar Jolle, Chairperson, Karnataka Co-op Oilseeds Growers’ Federation (KOF) and parliamentarian from Chikkodi, contributed Rs 25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Covid-19 Relief Fund on behalf of all the KOF and its regional unions.

Earlier, South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank donated one crore rupees to fight the Coronavirus.

The Mysuru District Cooperative Milk Producers Societies Union Limited (MyMUL) has donated Rs 25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief fund to combat COVID-19.

Karnataka based Manvi Pattana Souharda Sahakari Bank has also contributed Rs 1 lakh to the State Chief Minister Relief fund. The Mysuru Cooperative Bank donated Rs 2 lakh to the relief fund.

The office-bearers of Sri Krishnarajendra Co-operative Bank Ltd., Mysuru, donated a cheque of Rs 1.5 lakh towards the CM’s Relief Fund.
