Reports of cooperatives celebrating the vigilance awareness week have come from various quarters. The apex body of co-operatives in the country NCUI matched the national mood by taking a Pledge to this effect on Tuesday.

On this occasion, NCUI’s CE N Satyanaryana exhorted senior employees and officials to work with honesty and transparency with the help of video conferencing.

The post shared by NCUI on its social media handle reads, “On the occasion of Observance of Vigilance Awareness week (27th Oct – 2nd November, 2020) NCUI is observing vigilance awareness week by taking pledge (Officers/ employees) as per the guidelines by Government of India”.

The Vigilance Week assumes special importance for cooperatives as corruption is seen as a major hindrance to the progress of the cooperative movement. The trust of the common man is important for the success of the movement and thus we need to be extra careful in the affairs of running a cooperative, said CE Satyanarayan.

On the occasion, the Central govt has asked organizations to improve internal processes, time bound disposal of work and systemic improvements leveraging technology. It asked for making all processes transparent including payment to outsourced workers, house allotments, updating and digitization of assets like land records, throwing away old furniture and weeding out old records following the prescribed procedures/ extant rules.

Raipur State Unit of Kribhco also celebrated the Vigilance Awareness Week by organizing a pledge taking ceremony to remain honest. A discussion was also organized on the occasion. Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Federation President Jhunmun Gupta inaugurated the program by administering the oath of integrity to the co-operators present on the occasion.

In his address, Kribhco’s Chief State Marketing Manager JP Singh said that the state of Chhattisgarh is better than states like Punjab in the field of farming and marketing. The soil here is not contaminated, but the fertility is getting weaker due to the use of chemical fertilizers.

Reports of several IFFCO units and state offices observing Vigilance Week have also come to the desk of Indian Cooperatives.

On this occasion Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated National Conference on Vigilance and Anti-Corruption organised by the CBI. PM Modi whilst inaugurating reiterated his government’s mission to change the nation’s perspective towards corruption and also recalled the government’s previous decisions of ensuring the same change.

He also stated that the nation has moved ahead with zero tolerance policy against corruption and shall continue to do so.

Modi lashed out at Dynastic corruption and said it has increased with time. During the past decades, we have seen that when one generation of corrupt people is not punished adequately, its subsequent generations indulge in corruption with more impunity,’ the prime minister said.

‘Because of this, it has become a part of the political culture in some states. Corruption running through generations and the dynasty of corruption are hollowing out the country like termites,’ Modi said.

The Central Vigilance Commission observes the Vigilance Awareness Week from 27th October to 2nd November, 2020. This is observed every year during the week in which the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (31st October) falls.
