Delegates, who had come from different parts of the country shared their views during IFFCO’s special meeting of the general body organized in the NCUI Auditorium on Friday for taking the nod from shareholders for amending the by-laws of the fertiliser cooperative as per the amendments made in the Multi State Cooperative Societies Act 2023.

Biscomaun Chairman Sunil Kumar Singh stole the show with his style as well as with the content of his speech. He praised the efforts of IFFCO Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani and Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi in creating new milestones year after year.

During the meeting, the delegates were waiting for Sunil’s speech, who later on regaled the audience with his words.  Sunil’s suggestion to send the proposal to the central government for paying 40 percent dividend to the shareholders was enthusiastically responded to by the audience.  Sunil’s point was that no matter how much profit IFFCO earns—Rs 1000cr or Rs 2000cr or Rs 4000cr, the dividend remains the same-20%. “We request the chair to think on doubling the dividend”, said Sunil.

He further added that it is no mean feat that IFFCO has distributed 7 crore bottles of Nano Urea and helped the central government in saving Rs 30,000 crore as subsidy given to farmers on a bag of conventional urea, he said amidst thunderous applause. Who other than Dr Awasthi truly deserves the Bharat Ratna, asked Sunil.

Sunil was also effusive while describing IFFCO MD’s charisma and said “One year of Dr Awasthi life takes IFFCO 10 years ahead of others”.

On this occasion, the delegate from Lucknow, Bharat Tripathi said, to disseminate the information about the Nano Urea and Nano DAP, there is a need to organize more seminars and workshops. He suggested that there should be demonstrations of how to use liquid fertilisers at the block level. The seminar should be organized on the lines of ‘Kisan Goshti’ which used to be organized by IFFCO in the past.

A delegate from Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, Anil Kumar spoke about giving the Bharat Ratna Award to IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi. He wanted a proposal in this regard to be sent to the central government.

Another delegate, Ms. Pushpa Manta, Hanumangarh, Rajasthan suggested giving 33 percent reservation to the women on the board of IFFCO on the lines of central government giving 33% of the seats in the elected lower house of Parliament and in state legislatures. She also mentioned the lack of cooperation of the agriculture department in disseminating information about Nano Urea and DAP.
