GSCU collaborates with Vidyapeeth to boost credit co-op formation

The Gujarat State Co-operative Union, in collaboration with the Management and Technology Academic Branch of Gujarat Vidhyapith, organized the State Level Young Women Co-operative Seminar – 2024 recently at the Hirak Mahotsav Hall, Gujarat Vidhyapith, Ahmedabad.

The seminar focused on the theme of “Constitution of the New Co-operative Credit Societies.” Distinguished figures including Dr. Rajendrabhai C Trivedi, Executive Officer of Gujarat State Co-operative Union, Shri Ajaybhai Parekh, Dean of the Faculty of Management Technology Department of Gujarat Vidhyapith, and Ms. Mayuriben Farmer, Head of the Centre for Studies in Rural Management Department, inaugurated the event by lighting a ceremonial lamp.

Dr. Rajendrabhai C Trivedi emphasized the significance of co-operative activities, highlighting their dual role in not only providing livelihood but also generating employment opportunities. He stressed the importance of instilling cooperative values in youth, enabling them to establish co-operative societies and contribute to economic growth and employment.

In his address, Shri Ajaybhai Parekh underscored the alignment of cooperative principles with the ideology of Gujarat Vidhyapith, citing Mahatma Gandhi’s efforts to promote self-reliance among farmers, youth, and women through cooperative activities. He also mentioned governmental initiatives such as “Local for Vocal” and Startup Schemes aimed at fostering prosperity in rural areas.

During the expert session, Dr. Rajendrabhai Trivedi cited successful examples like Manekchowk Cooperative Bank and SEWA Organization, illustrating the organizational power and benefits of the cooperative sector. He highlighted the potential for economic gains through diverse cooperative ventures like Data Entry and Eco-Tourism Cooperative Societies.

Insights into the evolution and principles of cooperation were provided by Shri Avinash Thakur and Ms. Deepshikha Thakur, Co-operative Education Officer and Assistant Officer respectively, from Gujarat State Co-operative Union.

The seminar concluded with a valedictory session attended by notable figures including Shri Ghanshyambhai Amin, Chairman of Gujarat State Co-operative Union, and Dr. Harshadbhai Patel, Chancellor of Gujarat Vidhyapith. Shri Amin emphasized the inclusive nature of the cooperative sector and its role in building an exploitation-free society.

Dr. Harshadbhai Patel echoed these sentiments, highlighting the collective spirit and mutual respect inherent in cooperative activities. The event also featured an inspirational documentary on Shri Ghanshyambhai Amin and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Hiteshbhai Jagani, highlighting the seminar’s success in attracting over 250 students.

In summary, the seminar showcased the growing enthusiasm among young people for cooperative values, signalling a shift towards entrepreneurial endeavours and collective prosperity.
