Govt to launch BharatVistaar AI Advisory for farmers from Feb 17

Turning the vision of the Union Budget 2026–27 into concrete action, the Government of India will launch BharatVistaar, a multilingual AI-based conversational advisory platform for farmers, on 17 February. The initiative is designed to create a unified digital ecosystem that brings together farm advisory services, scientific research, weather intelligence and market data on a single technology-driven interface accessible across the country.

BharatVistaar aims to transform the way farmers access information by offering AI-powered guidance on crop planning, soil health, pest management and weather forecasts.

Through a conversational format, farmers will be able to seek real-time, customised responses in multiple Indian languages, reducing dependence on fragmented sources of information. The system is expected to bridge critical information gaps, particularly for small and marginal farmers who often lack timely access to scientific advisories.

The platform will integrate key national agricultural databases and institutions, including AgriStack and research-backed advisories from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Weather inputs from the India Meteorological Department and mandi price updates will also be embedded within the system, enabling farmers to make informed sowing, harvesting and marketing decisions. By consolidating these resources, BharatVistaar seeks to provide a seamless “one-stop” digital solution for agricultural planning and risk management.

Beyond advisories, the platform will support farmers in accessing government schemes, institutional credit and crop insurance products. By integrating financial services within the advisory ecosystem, the government intends to reduce production risks and improve resilience against climate variability and market fluctuations.

The AI-driven model is also expected to help farmers optimise input use, lower costs and enhance productivity through precision-based recommendations tailored to local conditions.

Officials believe BharatVistaar represents a significant step toward modernising agricultural extension services in India. Traditional outreach mechanisms often struggle to keep pace with the diverse and evolving needs of millions of farmers. With AI at its core, the new system aims to deliver scalable, personalised and timely information directly to farmers’ mobile devices.

The launch aligns with the broader push for digital agriculture and inclusive growth outlined in the Budget. By combining technology, research and financial inclusion, BharatVistaar is positioned to strengthen farm-to-market linkages, reduce post-harvest losses and improve price realisation.

If implemented effectively, the platform could play a transformative role in enhancing farm incomes, promoting sustainable practices and building a more resilient agricultural sector across India’s varied agro-climatic regions.
