Goa: Form a cooperative and get a rice-mill

If Goa’s tribal farmers formed self-help groups and cooperative societies, they would soon be given a rice mill. The Goa division of Indian Council for Agricultural Research has made a promise to this effect.

The mill would be set up in Canacona area where most of the Goan tribals live, said the ICAR source.

Experts say the technology would enable the tribals to greatly spike their gains from farming and spare them the drudgery involved in refinement of rice grains.

According to the ICAR source, the mill would bring happiness to more than half a thousand farmers in the area. The mill would be managed and controlled by the tribal themselves, said the source.

A middle-aged man who happens to be a big deal in the local community said the ICAR initiative would spur a proliferation of cooperative institutions in the tribal belt.
