The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised a national workshop in New Delhi on the theme “Building PACS-led Smart Cooperatives for a Viksit Bharat 2047”, highlighting the role of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies in India’s long-term development vision.
The workshop was chaired by Dileep Sanghani, chairman of NCUI, IFFCO and GUJCOMASOL, following his appointment as chairman of the PHDCCI Cooperative Committee.
Addressing the workshop, Sanghani said the theme was forward-looking and would help shape the future direction of the cooperative movement. He said the initiative was a significant step towards strengthening and modernising PACS across the country.
He highlighted the steps taken by the Ministry of Cooperation since its formation under the leadership of the prime minister, noting that sustained efforts are being made to make PACS stronger, modern and multi-purpose. He said the measures taken for the cooperative sector under the leadership of the union home and cooperation minister were noteworthy.
Sanghani said the implementation of new model bye-laws across the country would play a key role in accelerating cooperative development. Speaking in a lighter vein, he said even Mamata Didi, who generally frowns upon initiatives from the Centre, has welcomed the new model bye-laws for PACS.
He added that initiatives such as the computerisation of PACS, policy reforms related to multi-state cooperative societies, and an increased focus on transparency and accountability have given new momentum to the cooperative movement.
The workshop saw detailed deliberations on developing PACS as smart, technology-enabled and multi-purpose cooperative institutions so that they can contribute effectively to the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The national workshop was attended by PACS representatives from across the country. Scores of cooperators from national federations were also present.
Among those present were Sudhanshu, secretary, APEDA; Prakash Nainakware, managing director, NFCSSF; Ranjit Mehta, chief executive officer and secretary general, PHDCCI; and Jatinder Singh, deputy secretary general, PHDCCI.
