The Uttarakhand State Cooperative Federation and ICM Dheradhun celebrated the National Cooperative Week in Press Club of Dheradhun. The theme this year was “Development of Uttarakhand farmers through Cooperatives”.

On this occasion, Pramod Kumar Singh said the basic objective of cooperatives is to help farmers and poorer sections of society and protect them from the fleecy moneylenders. He suggested that through cooperatives people can improve their living standards.

Pramod touched on several other issues like agriculture inputs, farm production, cluster farming etc.

He said the autonomy of cooperatives is an important issue as cooperatives being subject to the govt. control are unable to work properly, he added.

The Uttarakhand Cooperative Society Deputy Registrar, Ira Uprati said farmers have direct connection with cooperatives. The Uttarakhand region has 759 PACS that are working for the benefit of farmers, he noted.

The Dheradhun District Cooperative Bank Chairman Dr K.S.Rana said cooperatives have played a prominent role in boosting farm production. He also underlined the importance of autonomy for cooperatives, he said.

The seminar was attended by the Uttarakhand State Cooperative Bank, Vice president Manvandra Singh, UCF, Director Virendra Singh Rawat and several other cooperators from the Uttrakhand region.
