Cooperative journo felicitated

The editor of Indian Cooperative and Bhartiya Sahakarita Ajay Jha was felicitated on the occasion of launching of Federation of Press clubs of India at N Delhi on Sunday, in a programme that saw participation from a number of press clubs from across the country.

Since the journalists’ unions have mostly become defunct owing to internal fights, press clubs have slowly emerged as representing the issues being faced by the journalists across India. Jha being on the Board of Press Club of India was honoured for the positive role played by him in raising issues being faced by journalists.

As part of a move to fight for the rights of the media and work towards getting the government to bring a legislation to protect the rights of journalists, Federation of Press Clubs of India was launched Sunday with Press Club of India to chair the federation in the first year.

Representatives of press clubs in different states viz.  Shimla Press Club, Press Club of India, Indian Women Press Corps, Foreign Correspondents Club, Press Club of Jammu, Arunachal Press Club, Chandigarh Press Club, Press Club-Hyderabad, and Mumbai Press Club participated in the conclave held here.

At the conclusion, the conclave unanimously adopted the Delhi Declaration which included issues like   formation of a national body with the name Federation of Press Clubs of India; setting up a governing council for one year initially with Press Club of India, New Delhi would be chairing the Federation; etc.
