COBI: Biscomaun Chairman co-opted

Biscomaun Chairman Sunil Singh has been co-opted as Director on the board of Co-operative Bank of India, popularly known as COBI. NCUI Vice-Chairman G H Amin is the Chairman of the apex body.

Amin was elected Chairman of the apex organization of Cooperative Banks of India (COBI) a couple of years ago. Amin replaces Vishwanathan to occupy the highest seat of the COBI. COBI is headquartered at NCUI complex in Delhi.

Biscomaun Chairman was co-opted just before Amin left for a fortnight to USA.” I was co-opted by nomination”, said Mr Singh to Indian Cooperative. Sunil Singh’s mother passed away recently. Almost all the cooperators drawing from various states including Chandra Pal Singh visited his village to condone with the leader.

COBI is headquartered at NCUI complex in Delhi and it represents UCBs, cooperative banks of the states, Land Mortgage banks and other national federations.

Cobi has to interact with the RBI and the government on behalf of cooperative banks. The issue of licence of cooperative bank is pending for a long time. It would be my priority to expedite the matter, Amin had said just after his election. But nothing has happened so far.

COBI came into news for all the wrong reasons when it decided to hold its Board meeting on foreign soil sometimes ago.
