Co-ops congruent with Indian culture; CM at workshop

Addressing a cooperative seminar at Mantralaya, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan underlined the compatibility of cooperation with Indian culture and civilization. He said the cooperative sector could play a vital role in transforming India into a land of prosperity for all.

The chief minister was speaking in the seminar on “Cooperative Movement in MP: New Energy, New Power and New Horizons” A large number of prominent people including State Cooperative Minister Arvind Singh Bhadoria, RBI Central Board Director Satish Marathe, GCMMF MD, R S Sodhi, Campco Chairman Kishore Kumar Kodgi, Vamnicom Director Dr Hema Yadav, among others attended the event.

The chief minister said MP has shown how cooperatives could be used in controlling the scourge of Covid 19. Cooperatives are present everywhere and they play an important role in ensuring welfare for the poor, the chief minister remarked.

CM said the economy would be rebuilt through cooperatives in the state. Cooperation will be strengthened in various sectors like tourism, dairy, animal husbandry, fisheries etc. Cooperatives will become the ‘engine of growth’ in the state.

Cooperative Minister Arvind Bhadauria said that the cooperative movement has gained momentum in Madhya Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The cooperative movement will benefit from the experiences of experts from various fields of cooperatives who came to the workshop.

RBI Central Board Director Satish Marathe said that there is a need for infusion of capital in the cooperative sector. For this, it is necessary to make co-operative institutions more empowered by making necessary amendments in the existing laws.

Marathe said MP has huge potential for animal seed production and food processing. There was also a market for oilseeds thus there is a need to increase production of oilseeds and pulses in the state. He also talked of opportunities in the field of tourism through cooperatives.

Campco President Kishore Kumar said that cooperatives provide support to the crops even when the market price falls.

Amul MD R.S. Sodi said that cooperatives are for those small businessmen and workers, who cannot do anything alone. Together they can do a great job. To make the cooperative sector profitable, the help of professional people has to be taken in it, Sodhi underlined.
