Co-op clout: Prabhu & Gowda at Campco farmers’ meet

Mangalore headquartered Chocolate cooperative CAMPCO is organizing an interactive session between farmers and two union ministers today on Tuesday at Sullia. The presence of two union ministers at a Campco’s event underlines the clout of the Chocolate cooperative, claim its supporters.

“Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Commerce & Industries and D.V.Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation and Minister Incharge for Chemicals & Fertilisers, Govt. of India are scheduled to visit Sullia on 11th December, 2018”, reads a press release mailed by the cooperative organization.

Farmers who have been invited for the interactive sessions are connected with Arecanut, Pepper and Rubber crops. Besides the two union ministers Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP Dakshina Kannada, S.Angara, MLA Sullia and S.R.Satischandra, President and Directors of CAMPCO will be present on the occasion.

“I request the farmers to make best use of this opportunity and be present to interact with the Ministers who are coming from Delhi. There are several issues concerning Arecanut, Pepper and Rubber crops and one cannot have a better chance to present their case”, said S.R.Satischandra, President of Campco.

The interactive session would start at 11 am in the K.V.G.Ayurvedic College Auditorium, Sullia. Besides farmers of the State, Satishchandra also requested local farmers to avail this opportunity.

Held as the pride of co-operatives in the Southern state of Karnataka, CAMPCO crossed an all-time high turnover of Rs 1,742.00 crore in the financial year 2017-18. It has a track record of four and a half decades of service.

The Campco leadership played a role in ensuring Minimum Import Price of Pepper at Rs.500/ and was partly due to its clout, the import has been curtailed leading to the stabilization of domestic market thereby protecting the interest of the pepper farmers.

Eager to grow at a fast pace, CAMPCO Chocolate Kiosks were opened at Puttur and Bengaluru recently. It also plans to have a Kiosk at Mangaluru soon, Campco sources add.

CAMPCO in collaboration with CPCRI is conducting Research in Value Addition for its products. CAMPCO is also venturing out into coconut and has contacted the pioneers of the field to commence a “Coconut Processing Project”.
