In a major step toward strengthening the implementation of the Official Language Policy across the cooperative sector, the Ministry of Cooperation has constituted a Hindi Advisory Committee, with Union Home & Cooperation Minister Amit Shah as its Chairman.
The Committee has been set up in accordance with directives issued by the Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Leading the initiative, Amit Shah will guide the Committee in reviewing the progress of Hindi usage in official work, ensuring compliance with the Official Language Act, associated rules, and instructions from the Kendriya Hindi Samiti. The move is expected to give fresh momentum to the Ministry’s efforts to expand the use of Hindi across cooperative institutions nationwide.
Supporting the Chairman, Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar and Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol have been appointed as members of the Committee, strengthening political and administrative oversight at the highest levels.
The panel also features a strong presence of Members of Parliament. Key names include Dilip Saikia (Lok Sabha), Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde (Lok Sabha), Dr. K. Lakshman (Rajya Sabha), and Smt. Sunetra Ajit Pawar (Rajya Sabha), nominated through the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
Additionally, MPs Shri Kuldip Indora and Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishamba have been inducted through the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language, adding parliamentary weight to the initiative.
Prominent nominations from various language bodies, such as NTPC Rajbhasha Manager Alok Adhikari, Hyderabad-based Hindi scholar S. Gaibuwali, and experts nominated directly by Amit Shah, including Dr. Jawahar Karnawat, Dr. Anita Nayar, Harish Kumar, and Shriniwas Rao, ensure representation from academia, language promotion bodies, and cooperative practitioners.
Senior bureaucrats including the Secretary, Cooperation; Secretary, Official Language (MHA); Additional Secretaries; and Joint Secretaries from both Ministries will serve as official members. The Secretary, National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT), is also a member.
Their presence ensures administrative continuity in executing the Committee’s recommendations. The Joint Secretary (Cooperative Policy & Parliament) will act as the Member-Secretary, coordinating all activities.
The Committee has been mandated to review the Ministry’s performance on Hindi implementation, suggest measures for improvement, and monitor adherence to language policies across attached and subordinate offices of the Ministry of Cooperation.
With a tenure of three years, the Committee’s work is expected to significantly enhance Hindi usage across the cooperative system. The resolution, issued by Anand Kumar Jha, Joint Secretary, has been circulated to all members, central ministries, states, and Union Territories.
