The Cooperative Election Authority has decided to defer the election of Office Bearers of BISCOMAUN, originally scheduled for March 8 and 9, 2025. The decision follows recommendations from the District Magistrate (DM), Patna, and Returning Officer (RO), citing administrative exigencies and law and order concerns.
The DM, Patna, and RO, in their letter no. 669 dated March 7, 2025, requested the rescheduling of the elections due to the ongoing budget session of the Bihar Assembly. Reports from the Additional District Magistrate (Law & Order) highlighted large-scale protests by political parties and social organizations, as well as a major government program scheduled for March 9, 2025, at Gandhi Maidan.
The event will witness the distribution of appointment letters to 10,000 teachers, with the participation of their families, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Education Minister, and other dignitaries.
Additionally, the Cooperative Election Authority reviewed concerns raised regarding the nomination process and shareholding patterns. A reference was received regarding an alleged incorrect nomination of Ramesh Chander Choubey as a delegate.
The DM, Patna, and RO clarified that no such dispute was raised and sought guidance from the Cooperative Election Authority.
Furthermore, a letter from Shri Manoj Kumar Singh raised concerns about the alleged misrepresentation of the shareholding of the Government of Jharkhand in BISCOMAUN. The matter requires further examination before proceeding with the elections.
Considering these factors, the Cooperative Election Authority, after due deliberation, has decided to defer the election of Office Bearers of BISCOMAUN. A fresh election schedule will be announced soon, reads a notification from the CEA.
This decision has been taken with the approval of the Cooperative Election Authority to ensure a smooth electoral process without administrative disruptions, it reads.
Reacting to the development, the outgoing Chairman of Biscomaun, Sunil Singh, said that these are merely delaying tactics aimed at capturing power. “Have you ever heard of an election being postponed so many times?” said Sunil, who was recently reinstated as a member of the Legislative Council following an order from the apex court.
