Biscomaun: All Directors elected unopposed, Sunil’s reelection a certainty

Amidst claims and counter claims, the emergence of Sunil Kumar Singh as the next Chairman of apex marketing co-op federation Biscomaun has become a certainty. As predicted earlier in these columns, all the 17 Directors were elected unopposed.

Biscomaun board comprises of 21 directors out of which 17 are elected and usually two directors are co-opted. Election for the new Board is scheduled for 9th June in which a new Chairman and vice-chairman would be elected. “It would be a mere formality now”, said an insider.

Among the 17 elected directors, five of them are new comers. These include Hira Prasad Singh, Dhamdaha Vaypar Mandal Sahakari Samiti, Parth Kumar Yadav, Chapra Vaypar Mandal Sahakari Samiti, Ramesh Chandra Chaubey, Pragatisheel Krishak Sewa Swawlambi, Vinay Kumar, Guruwa Vaypar Mandal Sahakari Samiti, Vishnudeo Rao, Hazipur Vaypar Mandal Sahakari Samiti.

Biscomaun elections have not been without its share of controversies. Ram Babu Singh, one of the senior cooperators, who was edged out this time, has knocked the door of Central Registrar challenging his ouster from the race.

Again, the election of Ramesh Chaubey who has recently been removed as the Chairman of Bihar State Co-op Bank is the talk of the town. His detractors quote Bihar co-op Act and say that he does not qualify to be the Director on the board of Biscomaun. Though a longtime associate of Sunil Kumar Singh, Chaubey has joined Biscomaun board for the first time.

Similarly, there are also complaints against Gopal Giri, who is said to have fudged his residency certificate. He represents a PACS which is not located in his village, say insiders.

It bears recall that Shri P N Singh, District & Session Judge (Retd.) is overseeing the election process. The scrutiny of nomination papers took place on 4th June, the date of withdrawal was on 6th. There are 210 delegates from across districts in Bihar and Jharkhand of Biscomaun. More than 50% delegates are new this time.
