Taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahakar se Samriddhi,” Banas Dairy and Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the potato value chain from seed to market through the principle of “cooperation among cooperatives.”
The MoU was signed on November 10, 2025, at Atal Akshay Urja Bhavan, New Delhi, in the presence of Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, and senior officials from both organisations. The agreement was signed by Sangram Chaudhary, Managing Director of Banas Dairy, and Chetan Joshi, Managing Director of BBSSL.
Banas Dairy, part of Amul and Asia’s largest dairy cooperative, has been expanding its activities beyond the dairy sector to support rural livelihoods. BBSSL, a leading cooperative seed organisation, specialises in the production and distribution of quality seeds. Their partnership aims to combine these strengths to establish a comprehensive and sustainable “seed-to-market” potato value chain in India.
Under this collaboration, BBSSL will utilise Banas Dairy’s advanced tissue culture and aeroponic facilities to produce certified, disease-free seed potatoes. In turn, Banas Dairy will provide technical expertise, logistical support, and access to markets to ensure the improved seeds reach farmers effectively.
The initiative will promote scientific cultivation practices, contract farming models, and efficient market linkages to enhance productivity and reduce input losses, ultimately increasing farmers’ income.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary (Cooperation) Dr. Bhutani described the MoU as a significant step toward empowering farmers through cooperation and innovation. He said that such partnerships demonstrate the power of “cooperation among cooperatives” in strengthening agricultural value chains and improving farmer resilience.
Sangram Chaudhary emphasised that Banas Dairy’s “Beyond Dairy” expansion is aimed at diversifying into new areas that contribute to rural prosperity. Chetan Joshi highlighted that this partnership would boost self-reliance in seed potato production and promote sustainable growth in the sector.
By aligning technological innovation with cooperative collaboration, the Banas Dairy–BBSSL partnership seeks to build a model for integrated agricultural development. The initiative is expected to benefit farmers across India by improving quality, productivity, and profitability in the potato value chain.
