As soon as FISHCOPFED Chairman T Prasad Rao Dora landed at Bhubneswar’s Biju Patnaik International Airport, he got a warm welcome by a huge number of cooperators waiting for him for hours at the lounge of the airport. Dora was declared elected unopposed as the Vice-Chairman of the International Cooperative Fisheries Organization (ICFO), which is the Global Cooperative Institution of Fishers.
He was soon drowned with garlands which nearly choked him, said an eyewitness. The apex body of fisheries cooperative in India FISHCOPFED Chairman T Prasad Rao Dora was elected during the Global Conference and General Assembly Conference of ICA at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia last week.
And Kim-In-Kweon-National Chairman of South Korea Fisheries Cooperative Federation has been elected as the Chairman of the International Cooperative Fisheries Organization (ICFO). There are three Vice-Chairmen in ICFO.
Dora has replaced FISHCOPFED Managing Director B.K.Mishra who had been the Vice-Chairman for 8 years.
While talking to this correspondent Managing Director of Fishcopfed Mishra said “Our Chairman has been elected unopposed as the Vice-Chairman of ICFO and he is the first Chairman of FISHCOPFED who has been elected. Prior to him, I was the Vice-Chairman of ICFO for two terms but it is all the same as what we value is representation of FISHCOPFED at the International level”, he said.

The International Fisheries Cooperative headquartered at South Korea and is a sectoral organisation of the International Co-operative Alliance. It was established to promote the development of fisheries co-operatives around the world, to promote trade, to share co-operative training and education materials as well as information on fishery matters. ICFO was previously known as the ICA Fisheries Committee.
