Using a reduction in demand as an excuse, the international suppliers of fertilisers such as Uralkali, Potash Corp, Mosaic and Phosagro are slashing production of DAP and MOP so as to sell these nutrients at high prices in the foreseeable future.
The Indian fertiliser companies are miffed at the trick being used by them as Indian farmers are already paying a price they can barely afford.
Iffco Managing Director U S Aawasthi and Indian Potash Managing Director P S Gahlaut have accused that the international suppliers are, on purpose, reducing production of fertlisers so that they could extract the rip-off prices from the Indian farmers.
