Bihar Minister for Agriculture Narendra Singh has accused the Centre of harbouring

‘step-motherly’ attitude to Bihar over allotment of Urea for the ‘Kharif’ season.

“The Centre’s attitutde towards allocation of Urea to Bihar during this Kharif season has been step-motherly,” Singh told reporters in Patna.

Singh said according to the talks between the state and Centre, it was decided that the later would allot 7.25 lakh metric tonne urea between April and August this year.

“Unfotunately, the state government has so far received urea 5.65 lakh which is 22 per cent less than the agreement reached at earlier,” he said.

When there was not much necessity of urea during the beginning of Kharif season in April, the Centre supplied 2.03 lakh metric tonne urea, he said and alleged that the centre

made available urea 1.27 lakh metric tonne against the requirement of 2.10 lakh metric tonne in the month of August.

Against the allocation of imported urea for Bihar between April and August at 1.40 lakh metric tonne, the Centre supplied hardly 20,454 metrict tonne while states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and West Bengal received urea more than the actual allotment during the period, he claimed.

“We will not sit idle and vehemently oppose the central discrimination against Bihar,” the minister said.
