With RBI’s nod Cosmos plans it big in Tamil Nadu

cosmosAmidst not so inspiring news from urban cooperative bank sector being the norm, here is a whiff of fresh air from the Pune based Cosmos cooperative bank. Reserve Bank of India has granted permission to the Cosmos Co-operative Bank to open four branches in Tamilnadu.

The apex Bank informed this to us through an official letter, informed an upbeat Chairman Mr Krishnakumar Goyal to Indian Cooperative. The bank will open these branches in this financial year to give “prompt and efficient” services to its customers in the state, Mr Goyal said.

At present the Cosmos Bank has one branch in Chennai. Reserve Bank has granted permission to Cosmos Bank to open two more branches in Chennai City and one branch each in Coimbatore and Hosur which are fast developing cities of Tamilnadu.

The four branches of Amravati Peoples Bank which has merged with the Cosmos Bank will be shifted to Tamilnadu. Cosmos Bank opened its branch in Chennai in the year 2012. “The customers of Chennai have given a very good response to this branch. The present setup of this branch is more than Rs.173 crore’, added Goyal.

T**king to Indian Cooperative, the second largest UCB’s Chairman said that the setup of Cosmos Bank has crossed the figure of Rs.25,000 crore. This includes Rs.14,900 crore of Deposits and Rs.10,100 crore Advances. Bank could reach this successful stage due to the trust bestowed by its members, depositors, customers and well-wishers alike, he added.

Cosmos Bank is having 134 branches in 7 states and the NAFCUB President Mr Mukund Abhyankar is associated with this very bank.
