Vamnicom: Naidu exhorts graduating students to end rural-urban divide

Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India touched the hearts of audience in the Vamnicom Convocation held in Pune on Monday with his simple assertion that faith in mother, mother tongue, motherland and the Guru (teacher) can do wonders in the life of students.

About 51 students were conferred Post Graduate diplomas and certificates in Agri-Business Management by the Vice President in the function. Manjunath, Santhoor R and Sugumar S were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively in order of merit.

The students and the audience were enthralled by the convocation address delivered by the learned Vice-President. Naidu urged the young agri business graduates to tap the opportunities in agriculture. Let all stakeholders be it Centre, State or Local bodies come together to help develop rural India so that rural urban divide can be bridged, asserted Naidu.

“Agribusiness professionals can contribute immensely through their knowledge on the need of intensive cropping, training on crop insurance, becoming self-reliant in food security, building good roads and rural infrastructure, cold storages, assured electricity, water harvesting mechanisms, and timely adequate credit at an affordable rate”, outlined Naidu.

He opined that agriculture alone cannot sustain without the support of allied activities like poultry, dairy, fishery and horticulture. Similarly processing, food technology and value addition should also be given focus while striving towards agricultural sustainability.
