The leading cooperator of Uttarakhand Pramod Kumar Singh has reacted strongly to the state govt latest move to order closure of more than 97 co-op societies in the state. All of these societies are members of state co-op union, of which Singh is the Chairman.
Singh who is on the board of both NCUI and IFFCO said 10 directors from these societies are on the board of the state union federation. Calling it draconian he said if the state government continues to harass us, the Congress leaders will have no alternative to launching a massive public agitation against the state government”, he added.
It bears recall that the State Registrar removed 97 member cooperative societies from 10 districts who are doing business with Uttarakhand State Cooperative Federation. According to the registrar, these member societies are not sale or purchase cooperatives but marketing bodies and are not doing any business with the federation.
Speaking in the same tone, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said all co-operative societies in the state that have violated rules and norms would be wound up as per guidelines in order to cleanse the cooperative system in the state. Speaking at a Janata Durbar held at the BJP office he made it clear that any violation of the Cooperative Act would not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, the member societies removed by Registrar are planning to knock at the door of court. Singh said “97 out of total 150 member societies are our members and about 10 directors from these societies are on the board of the federation.”
Earlier, Pramod Singh had accused the Trivendra Singh Rawat government of trying to remove Congress- members elected to various cooperative bodies in the state. The intention of the state government is to take over the federation but it could not do so as the government has no share in the same, he said.
”The state government had ordered an inquiry but could not find any irregularities in the federation”, he stated signaling the intensification of co-op war in the state.
In the press conference convened by UCF Chairman Pramod Kumar Singh, Ex-Minister Pritam Singh was also by his side.
