ULCCS does India proud; bags ICA AP’s Excellence Award

The Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society Limited or ULCCS Limited, a Kozhikode based 100-year-old workers’ cooperative has bagged the Asia Pacific Cooperative Excellence Award for the Enterprising Cooperative – the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society Limited from India.

The other award for the Inspirational Cooperative Leader was bagged by Datuk Seri Dr. Abdul Fattah Abdullah, the President of the Malaysian National Cooperative Movement (ANGKASA).

Lauding the ULCCS for its stellar performance, ICA Asia Pacific said it is one of the best diversified primary cooperatives in the world and has proven its mettle by establishing a niche of its own in infrastructure development in India.

Acknowledged as the best Labour cooperative society in India by the United Nations, ULCCS has redefined the role that the working class can play in national development while emerging as a global model for the labour cooperative movement, reads the release. ULCCS is accredited by the Govt. of Kerala and ranked world No.2 by the World Cooperative Monitor in the sectoral rankings, consecutively under the Industry and Utilities Co-operative sector for three years.

ULCCS is proud to have achieved 13 UN Sustainable Development Goals (out of 17) to end extreme poverty, reduce inequality and protect the planet by 2030. It works towards fostering Economic Empowerment, Social Development and Environmental Sustainability.

Acknowledging the new generational shift in the working class, ULCCS has diversified into IT and related sectors and set up various subsidiaries like the UL Cyberpark, UL Technology Solutions, Sargaalaya Arts & Crafts Village, UL Education, UL Agriculture and UL Housing to name a few among many others.

It has introduced various measures and schemes to enhance the financial security of its worker members and to strengthen governance structures. The Chairman and the Board of Directors are directly involved in the execution of its projects and day-to-day operations.

ULCCS Limited has earned various other accolades such as the National Award for the “Best Labour Co-operative Society in India” conferred by the National Labour Co-operative Federation of India Ltd, New Delhi in 2013 and the Regional Excellence Award for the Best Co-operative Society 2018, conferred by the National Co-operative Union of India and National Cooperative Development Corporation of India.

On behalf of ULCCS, its Chief Project Coordinator Kishor TK received the award from the guests.

The Asia Pacific Cooperative Excellence Award for the Inspirational Cooperative Leader – was awarded to Datuk Seri Dr. Abdul Fattah Abdullah, the President of the Malaysian National Cooperative Movement (ANGKASA). Currently, he serves as the Vice President of ICA Asia and Pacific and the President of the ASEAN Cooperative Organization (ACO).
