Tomar, Sanghani, Awasthi and others greet women achievers

Cooperatives are generally known as a male bastion in India but they looked just the opposite on March 8. Cooperative leaders from Union Ministers to NCUI President to IFFCO MD and others all of them have greeted women cooperators on the occasion of International Women’s Day reiterating their commitment to help them have pride of place in the cooperative world.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Agriculture Minister on the occasion of International Women Day has inaugurated the regional Agricultural Fair organized by the Central Agricultural University, Imphal.

IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi tweeted, “My Best Wishes of International #WomensDay to every woman. They are strength & inspiration. Specially, our #WomenInAgriculture #DaughtersOfTheSoil who grow food for the world silently. Empower women to make a better Society”.

International Womens Day was also celebrated by women employees at the IFFCO’s Kandla unit.

On the occasion the International Cooperative Alliance wrote, “Happy #InternationalWomensDay2021! Around the, women are on the front line of the response to the #COVID19 pandemic & are key actors in delivering a just recovery”.

In his message, NCUI President Dileepbhai Sanghani said, ” Warm greetings on International Women’s Day, observed annually on 8 March to celebrate the social economic, cultural and political achievements of women as well as raise awareness about women’s equality!”

The agri cooperative, NAFED also celebrated International Women’s day at their headquarters. “A function was organized in HO to Acknowledge & Appreciate the role of Women, which was attended by all employees of NAFED at HO & Branches. NAFED salutes all Women for their contributions to Family, Society & in Nation Building”, they tweeted.

The social media handle of Saraswat Bank wrote, “Celebrating all the beautiful souls who make our world better, with their thoughtful, loving ways. Happy Women’s Day, to all the lovely ladies out there”.

The news of celebrations poured in from districts and states at the Indian Cooperative Desk.One of the women cooperative banks falling in Rajnagar block of Madhubani district in Bihar was given an award by the Ministry of Rural Development, New Delhi for doing a praiseworthy work in employment generation.

Besides empowering and making women self -reliant, Rampur District Cooperative Bank has announced plans to give additional rebate of 0.5 percent to the women in the loan schemes. This announcement was made on the International Women Day.

Indian Cooperative movement has several women and organizations serving the movement in their own ways. A few of them such as SEWA’s Ela Bhatt, WWF’s Nandini Azad, Surekha Khot, Asha Snegar, Sadhana Jadhav, Arti Bisaria, SEWA’s Mirai Chatterjee, Alka Srivastava, Bhavana Gondaliya etc immediately come to one’s mind.
