SUMUL raises procurement prices; to benefit 2.5 lac dairy farmers

Gujarat based Sumul Dairy has decided to increase the cow & buffalo milk procurement prices by Rs 20 per kg fat from 1st May onwards, the day which is also celebrated as Gujarat’s foundation day.

The decision was taken in the board meeting held on Monday at SUMUL’s headquarter in Surat. The meeting was chaired by its Chairman Mansinhbhai Patel, who shared the news through social media.

“In a board meeting, it has been decided to increase the cow & buffalo milk procurement price from the cattle rearers of Surat and Tapi districts by Rs 20 per kg fat”.

Talking to Indian Cooperative Sumul Dairy one of the directors Nareshbhai Patel said, ” From 1st May, the cattle breeders will be paid 680 per kg fat and 695 per kg fat for cow and buffalo’s milk respectively.

The hike will benefit 2.5 lakh cattle breeders associated with the Sumul Dairy. In the interest of famers, we keep on revising the rates. Last year, also when Covid-19 was at peak we had revised the rates, he informed.

Besides, Sumul Dairy is also active in distributing the N-95 mask to the cattle rearers. So far, through the milk societies spread across the Surat and Tapi districts, the dairy has distributed over 1 lakh N-95 masks at free of cost.

Sumul Dairy is procuring milk from Surat and Tapi to the tune of more than 17.5 lakh liter every day.

Sumul is one among the 17 district unions which acts as a manufacturing unit of dairy products for Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the marketer of Amul brand of products.

Readers would recall that earlier, Sumul announced the sale of vegetables through its outlets spread across Surat and Tapi districts of Gujarat earlier.

SUMUL is preparing to collect the raw vegetables directly from the farmers and will sell them through our selling centers spread across Surat and Tapi districts of Gujarat. It will not only give the farmers good returns but also help in fulfilling our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of doubling farmers’ income”, said its Chairman Mansinh Patel earlier in an interview to Indian Cooperative.

It bears recall that the Prime Minister has given a similar call a couple of days ago saying “We must increase the number of Agro-Industries Clusters near the village so that the people of the village can get employment related to farming in the village itself” said the Prime Minister.

“Like we are collecting milk directly from milk farmers by making societies modelled after the societies of farmer producers and collecting raw vegetables from them”, Patel explained

In order to tackle the issue of standardization, the dairy giant has devised a way to grade the produce. Talking to Indian Cooperative Patel said “Besides we will also do the grading and packaging of the vegetables. We hope that it will start soon”, Patel added.
