Shaping up of a Co-op Management University

Lakhan Lal Sahu-the Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Union says the spadework is being done to establish Cooperatives Management University in Chhattisgarh to enable the youth of the state to get training for generating employment and income through cooperatives.

Several discussions and training on cooperatives have been held at different college and school levels through which students in Chhattisgarh aim to secure employment for themselves. The students need to realize that by undertaking small scale, cottage industries and several other works in the cooperative mode they cannot just maintain themselves and their families, but also make others stand on their own feet, claimed President of Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Union, Lakhan Lal Sahu.

The cooperatives union wrote a letter to the Registrar, Cooperatives, expressing the wish to establish Cooperatives Management University. The registrar has asked for submission of the project report, informed.

Discussions have been held regarding the university with Mohan Mishra, Secretary, National Council of Cooperatives Training, which comes under the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. Discussions will be held with state government also, said Sahu to Indian Cooperative.

The kind of university being panned exists at present only in Assam. If this university comes into existence in Chhattisgarh, then there will be school of micro credit, school of micro insurance and other streams under it and the institution will give degrees to students. The students will get trained to form and run cooperatives successfully, claimed Sahu.

Clutching papers Lakhan Lal Sahu could be seen running through the corridors of NCUI headquarters. They are the masters of the subject and I look forward to their help, he says underlining the role of NCUI and NCCT in his bid to set up the University.
