Sahakar Bharati bid to strengthen co-op movement in north-east

In a bid to ignite co-operative movement in the north east, Sahakar Bharati’s Organizing Secretary Sanjay Pachpor visited Manipur where a day’s workshop was planned by the local unit of the Organization.

Giving details a mail from the Manipur read “Sahakar Bharati Manipur conducted a one day Workshop on the theme “Harnessing the Power of Co-operatives to Achieve Sustainable Development for All” recently at Kha-Potshangbam Maning Leikai, Bishnupur, in Manipur.”

The workshop was hosted by Women’s Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd., Kha-Potshangbam. The objective of the workshop was to educate co-operators & participants about the power of Cooperatives to help preserve employment and promote decent work culture in all sectors of the economy.

“Through participation, members have a motivation to change their lives, their communities and the world to achieve sustainable development”, read a press release sent by the Manipur Chapter of Sahakar Bharati.

Sanjay Pachpor, National Organizing Secretary, Sahakar Bharati, stressed the importance of cooperative activities in dairy, fishery, food processing and other areas of economic development and also talked about various central government schemes available for cooperative activities as business enterprises.

Bharat Kumar, NE In-charge, Sahakar Bharati also underlined the power of cooperatives in the context of rapid and sustainable development across sectors in the country’s economy.

The program was attended by Radheshyam Singh, Minister of Education, Labour & Employment, Kh. Jibon Singh, Ex-Minister of Cooperative, Ltn Gen NL Singh, Bhabeshwor Khundrakpam, Ex-President, Sahakar Bharati Manipur and many other social workers.

Prof (Dr) Ramanando Khundrakpam, co-ordinator of the event shared his thoughts on how the earning potential of the unemployed people especially the womenfolk in Manipur State can be increased through co-operative activities and take forward the co-operative movement.

Six co-operative societies from three different districts have sponsored the event as co-sponsors namely – SION, Bheigyacahndra, Foundation Trust, Nachou Fishery Co-operative Society, Moirang Primary Co-operative Bank Ltd., Manipur Milk Producers Co-operative Ltd., K.Thambal Devi H/H Co-operative Society, Charangpat Manang Lekai.
