Rupani lists Gujarat’s contributions in co-op movement

Several ace cooperative leaders from across the country assembled in Gandhi Nagar on Sunday on the occasion of a mega cooperative event organized by Gujarat State Cooperative Union. The chief Minister of state Vijay Rupani inaugurated the function.

Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest Mr Rupani said it’s a matter of pride that Gujarat boasts a robust cooperative movement and more than four of its cooperative leaders are heading national level cooperative federations.

He named Dileepbhai Sanghani, Jyotindra Mehta, VR Patel and GH Amin in this list. While Sanghani is Chairman of NAFSCOB the apex body of co-op banks in the country, Jyotindra Mehta is heading NAFCUB the apex body of urban co-op banks and credit co-ops. V R Patel is Chairman of NAFED and G.H. Amin Vice-President of the cooperative apex body NCUI.

Addressing the cooperators Chief Minister who had come along with Deputy CM and state cooperative minister expressed his resolve to further strengthen the cooperative movement in the state. He lauded the state to have nearly 15 lacs co-op members from more than 74 Thousand Co-operative societies. Their strength would help develop the state, Rupani underlined.

Rupani also named Amul, Bardoli sugar in sugar co-operative movement and IFFCO for their positive contributions in the state. He urged co-operative banks and co-operative organizations to be fully equipped for digital economy to accelerate cashless economy.

NCUI President and Rajya Sabha member Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav who was also present on the occasion lauded the cooperative model of the state. He mentioned a slew of measures undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said these would transform India in the days to come. In particular, Yadav felt the digital drive undertaken by Modi would usher in a new era.

Talking to Indian Cooperative after the event , Chandra Pal said “I believe that if the Gujarat model of cooperative is replicated in the rest of India, it would go a long way in addressing the poverty of rural population”.

Several important leaders of the state including CM Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel, Union State agriculture minister Parshottam Rupala and state cooperative minister attended the function.

Apart from state based cooperative leaders including Sanghani, Mehta and Amin, Biscomaun Chairman Dr Sunil Kumar Singh was also present on the occasion. The huge hall was packed to capacity with cooperators.

On this occasion Chief Minister also launched a new website of association and a telephone directory of the members from state a remembrance of the Co-operative association.
