The National Cooperative Union of India signed and exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kairali Agriculture Multi State Cooperative Society Ltd. of Thrissur, Kerala on Wednesday at the NCUI headquarters in New Delhi. The MoU represents an important step toward strengthening cooperative-led initiatives focused on sustainable agriculture, carbon reduction, and green finance across the country.
MoU outlines a collaboration aimed at promoting climate-smart agricultural practices, increasing farmer awareness, and supporting capacity-building programs that enable carbon credit generation through cooperative structures.
Soon after the signing, Dileep Sanghani said both organizations would jointly work to empower farmers with advanced methodologies, sustainable cultivation techniques, and access to green financial mechanisms aligned with national climate goals.
The collaboration also underscores the growing importance of Kairali’s AGRONET mobile application, a platform that facilitates digital farmer enrollment, real-time monitoring of sustainable practices, and transparent tracking of carbon credit generation within cooperative frameworks.
As the partnership progresses, the MoU envisions extending India’s cooperative-based carbon credit model to global markets, enabling farmers to connect with international green finance, climate-mitigation initiatives, and cross-border carbon trading opportunities.
It further plans to support innovative sustainability projects such as microalgae-based Liquid Tree urban air-purification systems and black soldier fly larvae circular bio-waste management units, both designed to produce measurable carbon credits while fostering climate resilience and regenerative agriculture.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both cooperative organizations. From NCUI, participants included Dileep Singhani, Chairman, and Sudhir Mahajan, Chief Executive Officer. From Kairali Agriculture MSCS Ltd., attendees included K. V. Asokan, Chairman; Latheesh V. K., Project Head for the Carbon Credit Project; Pradeep Kumar, Chief Executive Officer; Nisha Raju, Director; Jaselin James, Director; Renjith Kumar P. G., Director; and Charles Mathews, Chief General Manager.
Pradeep Kumar and Latheesh V. K. of Kairali MSCS briefed the NCUI President on the range of initiatives undertaken by their cooperative, including efforts that have provided direct carbon-credit benefits to more than 5,000 farmers in Kerala. They also assured full support in launching and facilitating carbon-emission reduction and production programs in India and neighbouring countries, contributing to the cooperative sector’s role in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
Speaking at the event, Dileep Sanghani highlighted the importance of the cooperative sector in advancing national agricultural transformation and environmental stewardship while appreciating Kairali’s work in helping farmers enhance their income through carbon-credit initiatives. The partnership between NCUI and Kairali MSCS is expected to accelerate cooperative-driven green development efforts and benefit farmers across multiple states.
