The valedictory function of the apex cooperative body Nafscob scheduled for Monday was saved by a whisker when NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav arrived in the nick of time. Not even the Nafscob Chairman Dileep Sanghani was around let alone Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh.

Nafscob MD Mr B Subraminyam beamed when NCUI President could come to his rescue when he tore himself away from parliamentary preoccupations. Bhima was constrained to explain Chairman’s absence” There was a call from the Prime Minister and Mr Sanghani has gone to meet him.”

The thinly attended Valedictory however came up with some brilliant suggestions as distilled from various brain-storming sessions held for 2 days. Nafscob MD listed them with the help of PPT presentation.

Some of the recommendations included higher interest subvention which the participants felt is not enough in the case of cooperative banks presently. And some state govts do not give this at all and some of them give it too late, commented Subramaniyam. He suggested that the Govt of India need to intervene in the matter.

Need for financial assistance to make PACS CBS complaint so that they can cash in on the upcoming DBT wasnafscob middle another recommendation coming from the seminar. A third was active involvement of Nabard in helping co-op banks contain the NPA.

The experts also recommended that high-value frauds need to be reported to CBI by cooperative banks.

Other important recommendation related to adoption of transparent board approved recruitment policies in credit cooperative structure. There should be even board approved transfer policies, added the MD.

Speaking later NCUI President Chandra Pal assured the assembly that these recommendations would be taken to the govt so that farmers are able to avail easily-available loans.

On the occasion awards were also given out to several cooperative banks and credit cooperatives. Some of the awardees include Satara DCCB, Jaipur DCCB, Ahmandabad DCCB, Shri Rajkot DCB, Bhopal Central Co-op Bank.

Among the SCBs which received awards were Madhya Pradesh SCB, Rajasthan SCB, Gujarat SCB, Andaman &Nicobar SCB, Assam Co-op Apex Bank, Himachal SCB, Uttar Pradesh Coop Bank, J&K SCB, Maharashtra SCB, Goa SCB, Delhi SCB and Punjab SCB.

PACS awardees included Pappinivattam Service Co-op Bank, Mathikalm(TN), Thiruthangal Primary co-op, Virudhunagar(TN), Dadhol Agriculture Service Co-op Society, Himachal Pradesh, Nachipattu PACS based in Chengam(TN) and Karnana Multi-purpose co-op based in SBS Nagar (Punjab).

The institutions which won awards included Agriculture Cooperative Staff Training Institute of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Tamil Nadu.
