With its increasing stress on cooperative training, National Academy for Cooperative Research and Development (LINAC) set up by the cooperative lender National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) organized a two day training workshop on “Emerging Technologies and New Areas for Cooperative Development” at the NCDC headquarters in New Delhi.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr A.K Singh, DDG (Agriculture Extension), ICAR who was invited as the Chief Guest. NCDC MD Sundeep Nayak, over 15 senior officials of IFFCO, APEDA, NCUI, NCDC, Fishcopfed and others were present on the occasion.

The objective of the workshop is to familiarize the participants with new emerging technologies and processes in broad theme areas such as agriculture, fisheries, dairy, finance, IT applications, agri engineering, quality control and certification and agri logistics, said NCDC Managing Director Sundeep Nayak.

In his keynote address, Dr A.K Singh, DDG (Agriculture Extension), ICAR welcomed the participants and urged NCDC to collaborate with the ICAR Institutions and Krishi Vigyan Kendras spread across the country to get the knowledge on all aspects. ”I will help NCDC in this connection” he said.

“Science is developing fast and technology is the only solution to each and every problem. Though in our country production is not the issue but how we diversify the productive system is very challenging, he asserted.

Singh further added that hydroponic farming to grow fodder for farm animals is to be promoted. There is a need to invent new methods for the fishery sector. Recirculating AquaCulture production is one of them. Similarly, Micro-organism in agriculture should also be promoted and use of chemical fertilizer should be less, he added.

There is surplus production of Rice, Wheat, Sugar and others crops in India which need to be diversified into other crops. “Meanwhile, we are working on waste water treatment which is used for irrigation purposes,” said Singh to the participants.

In his speech, NCDC MD Sundeep Nayak informed the participants about the workshop and said this workshop may lead to many new things in the cooperative sector.

Regional offices of NCDC spread across the country also participated in the event through Skype.

Satish Tucker, Advisor, LINAC proposed a vote of thanks.
