In a strategic move to strengthen the cooperative sector, the Union Ministry of Cooperation has shared India’s comprehensive action plan for the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025.
This initiative is set to empower cooperatives at every level, from local operational improvements to global collaborations, ensuring a robust and sustainable cooperative ecosystem. With a focus on transparency, growth, and sustainability, the action plan aims to redefine and reinforce the role of cooperatives in India’s socio-economic development.
The action plan consists of ten key initiatives, addressing a wide range of aspects from grassroots improvements to international partnerships.
At the primary level, efforts will be made to enhance operational efficiency, governance, and promote transparency in cooperative structures. Additionally, public awareness campaigns will be conducted through various media platforms, including Sansad TV, to educate and engage the public on the significance of cooperatives in fostering economic progress and financial inclusion.
To commemorate IYC 2025, cooperative events will be organized in Raj Bhavans across all states and union territories, bringing together policymakers, stakeholders, and cooperative leaders. Moreover, the official IYC 2025 logo will be prominently displayed on Amul and other cooperative product packaging, boosting visibility and awareness among consumers.
A major focus of the action plan is on dairy cooperatives, with a structured five-year expansion plan aimed at increasing membership, milk collection, and overall efficiency in the sector.
Alongside this, state and district-level initiatives will emphasize organic farming, cleanliness drives, and the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, which promotes environmental sustainability and afforestation efforts.
To modernize and streamline cooperative governance, the Ministry of Cooperation will encourage the adoption of model bye-laws, ensuring uniformity, legal clarity, and efficiency in cooperative operations across the country.
The plan also outlines international collaborations, inviting global cooperative leaders to share best practices, enhance knowledge exchange, and foster cross-border partnerships to strengthen India’s cooperative movement.
In an effort to ensure financial sustainability, the government will facilitate financial participation from cooperative unions, district central cooperative banks, state cooperative banks, and multi-state cooperative societies to successfully organize and implement IYC 2025 initiatives.
The action plan underscores India’s commitment to making cooperatives a pillar of inclusive economic growth, reinforcing their critical role in rural development, financial empowerment, employment generation, and sustainable livelihoods.
Through this well-structured initiative, India aims to transform its cooperative movement into a globally competitive, resilient, and future-ready sector, fostering long-term growth and prosperity for millions engaged in the cooperative ecosystem.
