The Regional Director of ICA Asia-Pacific Mr Chan Ho Cho’s contract is not likely to renew which means his eviction from the high-profile cooperative job.
Indian Cooperative has learnt that owing to his dismal performance, the top ICA officials in Geneva have decided to dispense with his services. Mr Choi had been in Delhi for close to three years and his contract would end this December.
Indian Cooperative has got the information that Choi’s replacement has been decided on. The new Regional Director is slated to take over from January on wards. Delhi’s office of ICA monitors cooperative affairs in several countries of Asia-Pacific which include Japan China, Korea and others.
Mr Ranjit Hitachi who is the Chief Executive of Hongkong-based ACCU has been tipped for the job, according to a reliable source. Mr Hitachi is an old cooperative hand with vast experience in credit cooperatives. ICA sources point out that his appointment would augur well for the organization.
Mr Chan Ho Choi, a Korean by nationality had a lackluster tenure as he was not able to create the kind of impact his post warranted. He singularly failed to network with the cooperative bodies of the land including NCUI or IFFCO.
NCUI sources narrated the incident of arrival of ICA President Dame Pauline Green to the Cooperative Congress in which Mr Choi played hardly any role. They said that “Pauline was here despite Mr Choi wishing otherwise”.
Besides, his poor communications skill frequently lulled audience into sleep during cooperative seminars.
Mr Choi gave as much hint of his departure when Indian Cooperative raised the issue. Indian Cooperative has learnt that privately he has told his office colleagues of his imminent departure. “My contract is ending by December and it is a personal issue which I do not feel like talking about ” was his response to Indian Cooperative.
When Indian Cooperative confronted him with the charge of non-performance being levelled against him he said “Do not worry I would be alright. It is ICA’s internal matter and I do not want to comment”.
