Gujarat co-ops at forefront of fighting Corona; offer meals, masks & money

Even as the Corona epidemic is threatening the state of Gujarat in a sinister manner, the cooperatives of the state are doing yeomen service for the poor and helpless. And the two co-op entities grabbing the media headlines are Gujarat State Cooperative Bank and Ahmedabad State Cooperative Bank.

According to reports, these banks are not only distributing food packets among the needy in different parts of Ahmedabad but also making contributions towards the relief funds.

The representatives of both the banks are active in distributing grocery items and vegetables packets among the needy. Over 40k packets have already been distributed in villages, cities and rural areas.

These banks have set a target to distribute one-lakh packets. For completing the process several centers have been set up where these household kits are being prepared.

The banks have made a provision of crore of rupees to help the poor families in all possible ways. Directors and employees of the banks have prepared the list of the needy.

One of the directors Kamlesh Tripathy, Director, ADC Bank said, “Each representative takes the 25 kits and distributes them among the people. For the past several days, we are in the process of distributing kits”.

Earlier, the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank has contributed Rs 1.51crore each towards the CM relief fund and the PM Cares fund. Besides, Rs 5 lakh has been given by the employees from their one day’s salary towards the CM relief fund.

And, the Ahmedabad District Cooperative (ADC) Bank has donated Rs 1.01 crore each towards the CM relief fund and the PM Cares fund. Besides, Rs 21 lakh has been given by the employees from their one day’s salary towards the CM relief fund.

Besides these two, there are scores of other co-ops in the state which are doing their best to help the needy. Yesterday we splashed a story in which readers were informed how milk men connected with Banas dairy have contributed more than Rs 7 crore to the PM Cares Fund.

Earlier, Gujarat State Co-op Union led by GH Amin, Rajkot Bank led by Jyotindra Mehta, Amreli DCCB led by Dileep Sanghani and many more have been active strengthening the hand of the CM and the PM in the fight against Corona.

No wonder the good works being undertaken by the co-operatives have earned the praise of everyone including the media. India TV ran a story on Saturday on the work being undertaken for the help of the needy by the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank and Ahmedabad State Cooperative Bank.
