The World Cooperation Economic Forum (WCoopEF) held a side event during the Global Conference of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA). Presided over by Dileepbhai Sanghani, NCUI President and co-chaired by Satish Marathe, a Central Board Member of the RBI, the forum attracted over 100 participants from 16 countries, claimed a press release.

Policymakers, cooperative leaders, and economic experts gathered to discuss strategies to strengthen international collaboration through the cooperative movement. Moderated by Binod Anand, Executive President of the World Co-op Forum, the discussions explored cooperatives’ potential to address pressing global issues such as inequality, climate change, and financial inclusion. The event emphasized the role of cooperatives in achieving sustainable development while aligning with global frameworks.

A significant highlight was the spotlight on the United Nations’ declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives. This milestone recognizes cooperatives as critical agents of inclusive growth and their role in reducing global inequalities. Experts underlined the unique opportunity this designation provides to bolster cooperative efforts toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Binod Anand underscored WCoopEF’s commitment to promoting India’s cooperative economic framework. He described this model as a fusion of inclusivity and innovation that empowers marginalized communities and reduces inequalities.

Shri Dileep Sanghani stressed the importance of cross-border partnerships among cooperatives to foster a resilient global economy, while Shri Satish Marathe elaborated on the transformative power of financial cooperatives in reducing economic disparities.

Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board, delivered a presentation on the role of bioenergy in advancing environmental sustainability. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Net Zero Emission pledge, showcasing the cooperative sector’s ability to integrate environmental goals with economic development.

Prominent speakers, including Dr. Rakesh Arrawatia (IRMA), R.G. Agrawal (Dhanuka Group), and Dr. Hema Yadav (VAMNICOM), offered insights into advancing the cooperative agenda. Contributions from youth leaders, international ministers, and cooperative stalwarts like Bheema Subramanyam enriched the global dialogue.

The event concluded with a unified commitment to leveraging the International Year of Cooperatives to strengthen networks, drive innovation, and address global challenges. It reaffirmed that India’s cooperative model could serve as a global template for reducing inequalities and promoting economic inclusivity.
