Engaging Citizens: Bharat Taxi Logo and Tagline Contest announced

The Government of India has invited citizens to participate in shaping the identity of Bharat Taxi, the country’s first cooperative-led taxi platform, by designing its logo and tagline.

The initiative has been launched through the MyGov platform in collaboration with Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, which is spearheading the ambitious project under the guidance of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cooperation.

The contest, announced via MyGov’s official X handle, is open until 8:45 pm on August 20, 2025. The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 30,000 along with an invitation to the official launch event scheduled for December this year.

Bharat Taxi is envisioned as a cooperative alternative to existing ride-hailing giants such as Ola and Uber, with the aim of creating a fairer and more transparent ecosystem for both drivers and passengers. Unlike private platforms, Bharat Taxi will operate on principles of shared ownership and collective decision-making, ensuring that drivers are stakeholders in the enterprise.

This structure is expected to reduce exploitative commission rates, improve income stability, and enhance the dignity of drivers who form the backbone of the urban transport system. The government believes this model will also promote professionalism, safety, and customer satisfaction in the mobility sector.

The cooperative venture has been backed with an authorized capital of Rs 300 crore and will function as a large-scale mobility solution rooted in the cooperative spirit of India. Already, around 200 drivers from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh have been onboarded during the initial phase of preparation.

Trade unions and gig worker associations, particularly in Gujarat, have expressed strong support for the initiative, describing it as a much-needed alternative that prioritizes worker welfare over corporate profits. With the app rollout planned for December, the contest for logo and tagline design comes at a crucial juncture, as the platform prepares to establish its brand identity before entering the highly competitive ride-hailing market.

The MyGov contest is being seen as an innovative way to bring citizens into the nation-building process, encouraging them to contribute creatively to an initiative that could reshape urban mobility. The government has emphasized that the chosen design should capture the essence of empowerment, trust, reliability, and inclusivity—values that Bharat Taxi aims to uphold as it positions itself as the people’s platform.

By involving the public in this branding exercise, the cooperative seeks to foster a sense of ownership and pride among citizens, making Bharat Taxi not just a service but a movement towards collective progress.

The upcoming launch of Bharat Taxi has already attracted significant attention as it represents a rare attempt to challenge entrenched private-sector monopolies with a cooperative framework. If successful, the model could pave the way for similar ventures in other service sectors, reinforcing the government’s broader vision of strengthening the cooperative movement across the country.

For now, the logo and tagline contest offers ordinary citizens a chance to leave their imprint on a project that may redefine how India commutes in the years to come.
