Co-op Banks need to strengthen internal audits: RBI Director

Sahakar Bharati in collaboration with Kolhapur District Urban Bank Association and Kallappanna Awade Ichalkaranji Janata Sahakari (Kaijs) Bank recently organized a seminar on “Challenges before Cooperative Banks and Expectations from the RBI” at Ichalkaranji, in which RBI Central Board director Satish Marathe was the chief guest.

Many stalwarts of the cooperative sector including Sahakar Bharati state President Shashi Ahire, National General Secretary Uday Joshi, Maharashtra UCBs Federation Ajay Barhmecha, Vice-Chairman Vaishali Awade, Kaijs Bank Chairman Prakash Awade, Former MP Kallappanna Awade and others attended the seminar.

While addressing the participants Marathe spoke about how to tackle challenges at difficult times. In order to come out of the critical situation, banks need to increase their capital as it is the key to their resilience.”

“The cyber-attacks are increasing to a larger extent, so there is a need to adopt advanced technology in day to day activities, in order to save the system from hackers and cyber frauds. Besides, internal audits should be strengthened. The UCBs need to take planned and proper steps to strengthen themselves in the days to come and emerge as a strong bank in future”, he added.

Kaijs Bank Chairman MLA Praksh Awade stated that the co-operative movement has enriched the whole Maharashtra state and 40% of the people of the country are directly or indirectly connected with Co-operatives. The Co-operative Banking field needs to be strengthened”.

Sahakar Bharati National General Secretary Uday Joshi reviewed the development progress of Sahakar Bharti and said, “We are working in 29 regions and 700 Districts. Our organization has been playing an important role in strengthening the cooperative banking sector”.

Representatives of various Cooperative Banks and banks of the districts of Kolhapur & Sangli attended the seminar.
