Cent Registrar extends AGM deadline to 31st Dec; Keeps mum on election

Since all depts of the Central govt have relaxed the deadline the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies has also extended the time period for conducting Annual General Meetings (AGM) in Multi-State Cooperative Societies till December 31.

On Monday i.e. today in the first half, a letter to this effect was released from the office of Central Registrar. But the communication remained silent on the elections due in Multi-state co-ops. Besides others election is due in the apex body NCUI.

The Central Registrar letter is titled “Extension of time period for conducting Annual General Meetings (AGM) in Multi-State Cooperative Societies”.

“This authority has received various references/ requests from Multi-state cooperative societies (hereinafter referred to as ‘societies) regarding their inability to conduct AGM on time. The issue arises on account of recent pandemic, COVID-19, due to which the AGMs could not be conducted in the conventional way and the societies have requested this authority for seeking extension on the time period to conduct the AGMs”, it reads.

According to the letter, ” In view of the extraordinary situation created by COVID-19 and keeping in view the necessity of conducting AGMs as a business requirement, it has been decided that societies be allowed to conduct their AGMs till 31.12.2020. It may be mentioned that this shall be applicable to Multi-State Cooperative societies”.

The letter issued with the approval of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies, is signed by Alok Agarwal, Director (Cooperation).
