Caste & creed divide people; co-ops unite them: Sanghani

NAFFAC, led by its Working Chairperson Arti Biseria organized a felicitation ceremony for two cooperative stalwarts Dr. Chandra Pal Singh and Dileep Sanghani for their respective achievements at the NCUI headquarters on Wednesday. While Chandra Pal got elected as the president of ICA AP, Sanghani rose from the ranks to chair both NCUI and IFFCO.

The event was organized at the NCUI headquarters in Delhi on Wednesday when NAFFAC MD Vinay Kumar paid glowing tributes to the two leaders while reading a carefully prepared citation. The citation covered their heroic journeys and their achievements not only in the cooperative sector but also in other fields.

Welcoming the guests, Arti Biseria recounted several stories from the past related to the two leaders and said how present-day cooperators can learn from them. “It was thirty years ago when I had first met Shri Sanghani at a meeting in Gujarat where an RBI official was also present. The RBI official expressed some uncharitable words about the cooperative. Unmindful of his ministerial position, Sanghani countered the RBI official by citing the roles being played by the cooperative on a public platform. I am first a cooperator and then a minister said Sanghani” recalled Biseria.

Biseria also dwelt at length on the personality traits of Chandra Pal and said she has never seen Dr. Chandra Pal ever getting angry. “I have never seen him losing control of a situation- a trait necessary for any leader. Another thing we small cooperators need to learn from him is his good habit of returning all phone calls if he misses to attend them in the first place”, underlined Biseria.

Biseria also lauded NCUI for helping NAFFAC by giving some projects. She also thanked IFFCO for lending support. More than funds we need guidance from you, Biseria said. It bears recall that ever since Biserai has taken over as the officiating Chairpersonship of the co-op body, she has been trying her best to revive it.

Speaking on the occasion, Dileep Sanghani said that NAFFAC may be small in size but the idea behind it is not small. It’s a time of social media and NAFFAC should use the same for its growth. NCUI is always with you in your endeavors, Sanghani assured. Lauding the spirit of the cooperative movement, Sanghani said that while issues like regionalism, caste, creed etc divide people it is the cooperative which unites us.

Dr Chandra Pal who was felicitated for his victory at ICA AP, thanked the Modi govt for creating a separate Ministry on cooperatives. Modi has shifted the focus of the entire government machinery to the cooperative sector and its big news for our cooperatives. Chandra Pal also lauded Biseria for her long struggle to strengthen women’s cooperative movement from the state to the national level. He also announced her nomination for ICA AP Women Committee from NCUI. She has brought laurels in the past and I hope she will do the same this time again, Yadav added.

Besides the CE of NCUI, several other cooperators including Paresh Patel, Vishal Singh, Pradeep, and Ajay Rai were present on the occasion. Late Lal Bahadur Shashtri’s daughter-in-law also attended the event and narrated how Shastrijee worked for farmers and set up Amul and NDDB. Vinay Kumar proposed a vote of thanks.

National Film & Fine Arts Co-operative Limited (NAFFAC) was established in 1985 with an aim to popularize co-operatives across the globe. Ram Iqbal Singh is its Chairman and Arti Biseria is its Working Chairperson.
