The cooperative lender NCDC held a brainstorming session at Aizawl, Mizoram last week to discuss the progress made in several co-op projects launched by the NCDC. State Chief Secretary Dr Renu Sharma was present in the meeting, among others.
Held at the Mizoram State Cooperative Marketing and Consumers’ Federation Ltd. (MIZOFED), wide-ranging discussions were held about several ongoing projects sanctioned by the NCDC and about many new development activities to strengthen the cooperative movement of the state.
NCDC MD Sundeep Nayak was also present in the discussions and apprised the officials and others of the cooperative lender’s role in Mizoram. Exhorting officials to take keen interest in the ongoing projects, Nayak informed that NCDC has provided total assistance of Rs 74.75 crore benefiting various cooperative projects/units in Mizoram till the end of last financial year 31.03.2021)
The NCDC assisted Rs.0.188 crore, Rs.0.098 crore, Rs.0.201 crore and Rs.6.0526 crore for development of fishery, poultry, livestock and handloom respectively. NCDC assisted a total of 121 units under this program.
For the computerization, the cooperative lender provided Rs.0.392 crore to Mizoram State Cooperative Bank Ltd.
Soon after the meeting the NCDC official twitter handle wrote, “Wide ranging discussions NCDC as development partner with Government of Mizoram senior officers team led by Chief Secretary Dr Renu Sharma in the State Secretariat at Aizawl”.
It is to be noted that the NCDC is focusing more on strengthening the cooperative movement of the North Eastern States and in this regard many new schemes have been launched by the agri cooperative lender.
Working directly under the Cooperation Ministry, NCDC has taken upon it the job of fulfilling the government pledge of reaching out to people in north eastern states. It bears recall that ever since Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister, he has been stressing on growth of this region.
The cooperative movement of North Eastern is perceived to be weak because of lack of resources and awareness among the people. But the state governments of states like Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and others are taking keen interest in strengthening the co-op movement.
It bears recall that for strengthening dairy co-ops, NCDC launched Meghalaya Milk Mission and for the development of the piggery sector through co-ops, NCDC inaugurated Meghalaya Piggery Mission in the past.
