BJP sweeps PACS elections in Chhattisgarh

Even as the news of the Kerala BJP cooperative cell head’s involvement in a bribery case is making headlines, the BJP led cooperators have swept the PACS elections in almost all the districts of Chhatisgarh.

Out of 811 PACS the BJP led forum has won in more than 590, informed Ashok Bajaj who has himself been declared victorious from Abhanpur block in the Raipur district of Chhattisgarh.

Out of twelve PACS of Abhanpur block BJP’s panel won in ten of them thereby underlining its supremacy once again, claimed Bajaj.

In the capital Raipur where results of 49 PACS have been declared BJP has won in 37. In Bilaspur-another major district the BJP led cooperators have captured 58 PACS out of 68.

The story is the same in Rajnandgaon and Kabirdham districts. In Rajnandgaon out of 57 PACS BJP grabbed 42 and in Kabirdham it got levers of power in 50 out of 60 PACS where elections were held.

In Bastar district it nearly broke all the record by winning 34 out of 36 PACS where elections were held. In Mahasamund it won in 53 PACS out of 63 and in the backward belt of Sarguja it has won in 18 PACS out of 26 so far.

The results from far-flung areas are yet to come, though added Bajaj who is also the Chairman of State Cooperative Bank known as Apex Bank. There are nearly 1000 PACS in the state and the results of close to 200 of them are expected to come anytime now.

A PACS board has typically 11 members and even where BJP has lost it has done so narrowly. “At places Congress has won with the help of independent candidates and still we have about 4 to 5 winners in 11 member board”, said Bajaj.
