Birendra Singh, Chairman of National Consumer Cooperative Federation (NCCF) has made it to the Board of Central Warehousing Cooperation (CWC) once again. Talking to Indian Cooperative Mr Singh said “It’s my seventh term.”
I have been on the Board for the past 15 years, Mr Singh added. Mr Singh was elected unopposed. Delhi headquartered CWC is a prestigious PSU with a mandate for catering for the warehousing needs of the country.
A premier Warehousing Agency in India, established during 1957 providing logistics support to the agricultural sector, is one of the biggest public warehouse operators in the country offering logistics services to a diverse group of clients.
CWC is operating 464 Warehouses across the country with a storage capacity of 10.64 million tonnes providing warehousing services for a wide range of products ranging from agricultural produce to sophisticated industrial products.
Interestingly, Dr. C.V. Anand Bose–the IAS officer who waged a bitter fight with the Chairman Bijender Singh of NAFED during his tenure as MD is the Chairman of the CWC.
Talking to Indian Cooperative the re-elected Birendra Singh said “ I have won for the seventh term. My winning spree was interrupted only once when the election result got tangled in the legal battle.”
Birender Singh expressed sigh of relief also because the scenario at NCCF is not very encouraging for him for quite some time. His incessant demand to have a full-time MD has so far elicited a lukewarm response from the government. This has reduced the apex consumer cooperative to be a non-starter.
