Assam Co-op Apex Bank gets ready for election on May 21

The board meeting of Assam Cooperative Apex Bank (ACAB) was held on Wednesday and it decided to hold Annual General Meeting and elections on 21st May 2021.

The board meeting was held physically. It was presided over by the Chairman In-Charge and Vice-Chairman Biswajit Phukan.

“The board tenure will get completed on 26th May 2021 and thus we decided to hold the elections on 21st May. Besides, on the same day the annual general meeting for the year 2019-20 FY will also be organized”, said one of the board members to Indian Cooperative correspondent.

The Board member explained that due to corona and some other reasons, Assam Cooperative Apex Bank could not organize its AGM in the past. Now the Board has passed the resolution for holding elections and has also decided on its schedule. The same is being sent to the state registrar of cooperative societies for the approval, he stated.

According to the election schedule, the last date for filing nominations is 11th May. The scrutiny will be done the same day and withdrawal could be made till 12th April. If the consensus among leaders would not be possible, polling will be held on 21st May 2021, informed the Board member on condition of anonymity.

Once the approval of RCS comes, the process of filing of nominations would begin in right earnest, said the member, betraying a sense of haste in the wake of upcoming elections.

Assam Cooperative Apex Bank board consists of 11 elected directors.

In the Wednesday board meeting, members greeted Biswajit Phukan for winning the Assam assembly election from Sarupathar constituency. He was presented with a Shawl and flower bouquet.

Readers would recall BJP’s key strategist in the northeast Himanta Biswa Sarma has a strong hold in the Assam State Cooperative Bank. He was the Chairman of the bank before the election but he made Biswajit Phikan, the Chairman In-Charge once he launched himself into the campaign.

The Assam Co-operative Apex Bank Ltd. (ACAB) was established in 1948. The Bank has a wide network of 67 branches and 6 Zonal Offices, spread throughout the state the State providing banking products and other related services to the general public of Assam.
