Amreli: Harassed Sanghani forms co-op teams to help Cyclone victims

An ace co-operator Dileep Sanghani is a hassled man today as the cyclone Tauktae has hit his district Amreli severely and everything is at sixes and sevens in the district. Even the dairy which he heads– AMR Dairy is half submerged in the cyclonic impact, leading Sanghani issuing appeals for help and asking everyone to pitch in.

Busy touring the affected areas, Sanghani (who usually talks in low tone) could be heard talking at a high-pitch seeking help and instructing his co-workers to do things in a certain way. “Things are indeed out of control”, said Sanghani to the Indian Cooperative in a distressed tone.

To combat the situation Sanghani has constituted a team of cooperators associated with different local cooperatives of Amreli district, who are actively visiting the affected areas and helping the needy.

“Due to the Cyclone, the office of AMR Dairy, which is a member of GCMMF, has also been damaged to some extent”, Sanghani said, who is also the President of NCUI and Vice-Chairman of IFFCO.

“We are providing food packets to the affected people. We are thankful to the fertilizer cooperative IFFCO and other organizations helping us in our fight”, stated Sanghani. To ensure delivery of food packets to the people, several other cooperatives including Sarahi Youth Club and Sardar Patel Group are busy preparing food packets in Amreli since the last two nights”, he underlined.

Besides, he also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing the Rs 1000 crore relief package for Gujarat. The PM on Wednesday undertook an aerial survey of areas that are affected by the Cyclone Tauktae in Gujarat and neighbouring Union Territory of Diu.

Amreli is also a political constituency of Sanghani and a crisis like this is a test for the leaders of the area. Rising to the occasion Sanghani has been actively ameliorating the condition of the people, say his associates adding he has come off with flying colours.

The Cyclone has indeed been devastating. It is said many offices of cooperatives in the district have been destroyed. Sanghani’s team is trying to calculate the losses caused by the Cyclone.

Officials said that as many as 45 people have been killed due to the cyclone across 12 districts of Gujarat. Fifteen deaths were reported from Amreli district in the Saurashtra region.
