Amin wants women to set up co-ops in untapped areas

Under the aegis of Gujarat State Cooperative Union, a State Level Women Cooperative Seminar “Aatmanirbhar Mahila – Aatmanirbhar Bharat” was held at Ahmedabad. The Seminar was presided over by G H Amin, Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Union.

Participants included several women co-operators, members of the Women’s Committee and  women members of the Board of Directors associated with various co-operative societies of the state of Gujarat.

Inaugurating the seminar Ms. Rajikaben Kacheriya, Panchayat Member of Government of Gujarat said skill development and self-reliance are connected and that every woman should possess skill to be self-reliant. There is a need to promote skill-learning as women can perform any task, if space and time be provided to them.

Speaking on the occasion G H Amin narrated aims and objects of celebrating International Women’s Day on 8th March every year and stated that on this day discussion and deliberation take place as to what action needs to be taken for the empowerment of women.

Giving a brief introduction about the Cooperative activities, Amin said women can be made economically strong by giving employment to the skilled women after forming cooperative societies. Amin stated that there is a growth of education today and the Government, Private or Public Sector will not be in a position to provide employment to everyone.

In such a scenario the Cooperative Sector is meant for ensuring the economic and social upliftment of everyone without discrimination. The Cooperative Enterprises is one of the biggest sources of the employment generation, Amin stressed.

There are several untapped fields in Gujarat such as transportation, tourism, mountaineering, medical, education, cyber security, internet facilities etc. where the Cooperative activities have not yet made entry. Thus, the women can provide successful leadership to the Cooperative Sector, he underlined.

Releasing the booklet on ” Aatmanirbharta  ni Udaan “, MD of SEWA  and Guest of Honour, Ms Mittalben Shah recalled the gigantic task of uniting the women working with the unorganized sector undertaken by Ms Ilaben Bhatt.  She said in order to ensure the social transformation and women empowerment, the economic empowerment of the women is a must.
