Buoyed up with the success in getting the Himachal Pradesh Cooperative Societies Act amended, now Sahakar Bharati is planning to get the Model Cooperative Societies Act implemented in Uttar Pradesh.
The act was designed by the leaders of Sahakar Bharati. The main key highlights of the newly designed act are to curtail the powers of state governments in cooperatives and the proposed drafts also talks about the autonomy for cooperatives.
Sahakar Bharati leaders last week deliberated in this regard. A meeting was called at the headquarters of Land and Development Bank in Lucknow which was presided over by Reserve Bank of India Central Board Director and Sahakar Bharati former President Satish Marathe.
The meeting was attended by Sahakar Bharati National Vice-President Markandey Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chapter of Sahakar Bharati President Ramashankar Jaiswal, General Secretary Praveen Singh Jadon, Rajdutt Pandey and others office bearers of the state unit.
On the occasion, Marathe said the laws made by the British government are still being followed and nobody wants the condition of farmers to improve but now there is an urgent need to do modifications in the Act. He emphasized on the need for banks to implement their own system of raising financial resources.
The Model Cooperative Societies is an Act to provide for the voluntary formation of cooperative societies reliant on business enterprises based on thrift, self-help and mutual aid and owned, managed and controlled by members for their economic and social betterment.
The Act may be called the Uttar Pradesh Model Co-operative Societies Act. It extends to the whole of the State of UP and it shall come into force on such date as the government of UP may, by notification in the Gazette.
Veer Pratap Singh, director of Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Union (PCU) demanded to reduce the power conferred on the officers. State vice-president of Sahakar Bharti RP Singh Baghel spoke of curbing the powers and rights of the cooperative Registrar.
One of the speakers, Dwarka Prasad Gupta stressed on incorporating all the points of the 97th Constitution Amendment into the Model Cooperative Act. D P Pathak said that the board should have the right to remove the secretary.
